Benefits and Responsibility

What are your responsibilities as a disciple of Jesus? Have you considered your role in being a follower of Jesus? Have you considered the benefits of discipleship?

We often think of the benefits of being a disciple of Jesus, but more often than not, we neglect thinking about the responsibilities we have as disciples of Jesus.

Jesus spoke of the responsibility of his disciples in Matthew’s gospel account when he said, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12, ESV).

We are called to be disciples of Jesus, who make disciples of Jesus.

One of the best ways we can love others and help them in their relationship with Jesus is to do for them and to give to them what we wished someone would do for us and would give to us.

Loving God comes first, and then loving others as we love ourselves. This is the responsibility of discipleship which leads to abundant blessing.

May we take on the responsibility of loving discipleship which leads to abundant blessings in our lives and in the lives of others as we follow Jesus.

A Collect for the Presence of Christ: “Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
