Comfort, Prayer, and Guidance

Where do you find the comfort you need in difficult times? How do you pray in the midst of your hardship? Where does your guidance come from to navigate the road ahead?

There can be seemingly insurmountable difficulties in this fallen and broken world. We look for peaceful living. We look for consolation in hardship. We look for God’s good grace to help us in our time of need.

God spoke through the Prophet Isaiah, saying, “For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you.” (Isaiah 30:19. ESV).

God gives us a peaceful dwelling of comfort when we come to him. God hears us when we pray to him. When we call out to God, he answers us in our affliction.

Isaiah continues, saying, “And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” (Isaiah 30:20-21, ESV).

There is hardship and adversity, but God does not hide himself from us in the middle of our affliction. God reveals himself to us in comfort when we pray to him and he gives us the guidance we need to navigate our way through and our way forward as he shows us the way.

May we seek God for the comfort we need through prayer and hear God’s voice directing our path forward as we hear him say, “This is the way, walk in it.”

A Collect For Guidance: “Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
