Direction

How do you know which way to go and what to do? Do you rely on your own wisdom and understanding, or do you look outside of yourself for greater wisdom and discernment?

It is easy to default to self-reliance for direction in life. We often use our own limited judgement for direction, which can be clouded by our own presuppositions and limitations.

The wisdom of the Proverbs tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV).

If we are looking for direction, the first direction to turn is toward God.

Trusting God with all we are leads us to right paths. When we do not rely on our own limited wisdom and acknowledge God in all our ways, he makes a clear and straight pathway forward for us in the right direction.

May we turn in the right direction as we acknowledge God and trust God with all our heart, relying on his wisdom as he straightens our path in the right direction.

A Collect for Guidance: “Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
