Following Jesus

What are the challenges of following Jesus? How do we know where Jesus is going and how do we know the way?

These are important questions and they were important questions even for the early disciples who wrestled with following Jesus.

In John’s gospel account, “Thomas said to Jesus, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:5-6, ESV).

We know the way of Jesus and go the way of Jesus by knowing Jesus. As we come to know Jesus, we know his way, his truth, and his life, because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

When we come to God, it is through the way, the truth, and the life of Jesus.

May we know the way as we come to know Jesus and his way, his truth, and his life as our own.

A Collect for Endurance: “Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the Cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
