God’s Will—Your Purpose

What is God’s will for your life? What is your purpose? How do you discern God’s will and purpose for your life?

We are all here for a reason. We all have responsibility to God and meaningful work to do in this life.

The wise preacher and author of the Old Testament wisdom book of Ecclesiastes wrote, “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13, ESV).

The wisest and wealthiest person who ever lived, most likely King Solomon, who experienced everything and had everything, explained God’s will and purpose as “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and understanding concerning God’s will and our life’s purpose. Our whole duty is to revere God and obey his design.

May we know God’s will and purpose for our life as we reverence God and obey God’s good rules and perfect design.

A Collect for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity (Proper 10): “Let your merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of your humble servants; and, that we may receive what we ask, teach us by your Holy Spirit to ask only those things that are pleasing to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the same Spirit lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
