Love Sacrifices
What does true love, dedication, and commitment look like? How do we love others well? What is the greatest expression of love?
Love is dedicated and sacrifices for the benefit of others. Love is a commitment to give of yourself for another.
In John’s gospel account, Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.“ (John 15:13, ESV).
Jesus modeled sacrificial love for us by dying on the cross so that we might have abundant life. Jesus is dedicated to saving us and committed to give his life for ours.
Anytime anyone gives their life for the life of another, they are reflecting the love of God. This sacrificial love is the greatest love. As Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.“ (John 15:13, ESV).
May we remember the love of Jesus as we remember all those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom and well being by laying their lives down in the greatest act of love.
A Collect for Memorial Day: “O King and Judge of the nations: We remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our armed forces, who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy; grant that we may not rest until all the people of this land share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
