Our Returning King

Are you ready for the return of Jesus? Are you encouraged that Jesus will return? Are you prepared for the return of Jesus and his coming kingdom?

Followers of Jesus should be encouraged that Jesus is returning.

We can be comforted with the truth of God’s presence with us, and his returning to us with his physical presence. We are and will forever be with the Lord.

Jesus is our present and returning King.

The Apostle Paul wrote the Thessalonian Church, saying, “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, ESV).

The scriptures teach us that Jesus will return from heaven and will bring heaven with him, along with all the saints of God who have gone before. The bodies of those who have died will resurrect from the grave first. Those who are left on earth will greet Jesus and the saints of God in the air and return with him.

And we will always be with the Lord.

May we be encouraged by the returning of Jesus our King, the resurrection of the dead, and the coming Kingdom of God.

A Collect for the Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost, (Proper 27): “O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).

A Collect for Strength to Await Christ’s Return: “O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
