Prepare the Way

What do you need to do to prepare the way for God in your life? How do you need to make the pathway to God straight and level in your life?

The season of Advent is a season of repentance and fasting. Advent is “a little Lent”, a time of repentance and preparation. Advent is a time of confession and readying for the arrival of the messiah—Jesus Christ.

God spoke through the Prophet Isaiah, saying, “A voice cries: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.’” (Isaiah 40:3-4, ESV).

During this season of Advent, we are to prepare the way of the Lord. As we await the coming of Jesus, we can prepare ourselves. We can orchestrate our life in such a way that God has a clear and level path to our heart.

May we hear the word of the Lord through the Prophet Isaiah, and through the Prophet John—the voice of one crying in the wilderness, and “Prepare the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight” this Advent (Mark 1:3, ESV).

A Collect For The Third Sunday in Advent: “O Lord Jesus Christ, you sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Grant that the ministers and stewards of your mysteries may likewise make ready your way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient toward the wisdom of the just, that at your second coming to judge the world, we may be found a people acceptable in your sight; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
