Preparing the Way for Joy
Are you experiencing God’s joy in your life? What is preventing you from experiencing the fullness of joy that God has in store for you? How can you prepare for God’s joy in your life?
Our God is a God of joy who desires joy for his children, and who delights to rejoice over his children.
God speaks through the prophet Zephaniah saying, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17, ESV).
Our God is with us, our God saves us, our God rejoices over us with gladness, our God quiets us with his love, and our God rejoices over us with loud singing.
If God is this joyful over us, then we should be joy filled.
As the apostle Paul exhorted the Philippian Church, saying, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4, ESV).
May we be filled with God’s joy as we focus on the love of our joyous savior.
A Collect for the Third Sunday in Advent: “O Lord Jesus Christ, you sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Grant that the ministers and stewards of your mysteries may likewise make ready your way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient toward the wisdom of the just, that at your second coming to judge the world, we may be found a people acceptable in your sight; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
