Rest For A While
How rested are you? How rested would you like to be? What are you doing to pull away by yourself to rest a while?
When Jesus was ministering with his disciples, many of them were so busy they did not have any time even to stop and eat. These followers of Jesus were so busy serving they did not stop to take care of themselves or to rest.
In Mark’s Gospel account, Jesus said to his disciples, “‘Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.” (Mark 6:31, ESV).
We are not supposed to be so spread thin that we are busy coming and going without margin in our lives for rest and for self care.
God calls us to pull away from the crowds and the busyness and to be by ourselves in peaceful places so that we can receive God’s rest, refreshment, and care.
May we pull away and unplug and receive the restorative sabbath rest of God.

A Collect For Sabbath Rest: “Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
