Seeing Jesus
What do you want to see? Who do you want to see? Where are you looking? Who are you looking for? Who are you looking to see?
It is mostly true that we see what we are looking to see. It has been said, “Be careful about what you are looking for, you might find it.”
In John’s gospel account, the Greek people were looking to see Jesus. John tells us, “Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, ‘Sir, we wish to see Jesus.’ Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.” (John 12:20-22, ESV).
Like these Greeks in the time of Jesus, we should be looking to see Jesus. Like Philip and Andrew, we should be helping others to see Jesus.
What people need to see is Jesus. We all need to see Jesus.
May we look to see Jesus in our lives as we seek him and may we help others around us to see Jesus as we turn our gaze towards him.
A Collect for Fifth Sunday in Lent: Passion Sunday: “Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of this world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
