The Dangers Of Darkness
What does darkness look like? What are the dangers of darkness? What is the risk of walking in darkness?
There are many grave dangers in walking in darkness. Darkness has been equated with evil. Darkness has been defined as the absence of light.
The Apostle John asserted, “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5, ESV).
God is light. When we walk in God, we walk in the light. In God there is no darkness. In God there is no evil.
We avoid the dangers of the darkness by walking in the light of Christ.
If we claim to be followers of Jesus and walk in the darkness, we deceive others and ourselves—we do not walk in the truth of God’s light.
This is why John the beloved disciple said, “If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” (1 John 1:6, ESV).
God’s light is perfect and peaceful truth. We are to walk in this light of God, and not in the darkness.
If we walk in the darkness, we bring about our own demise in the dangers of darkness.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7, ESV).
May we walk in the light of God, and avoid the dangers of darkness, as we have fellowship with our God of light, and as we have fellowship with one another in the light of God.

A Collect For Aid Against Perils: “Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord; and by your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of your only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
