The Mercy Of God
What is mercy? Do you need mercy? What does the mercy of God look like in our lives?
It has been said that mercy is not getting what you do deserve and grace is getting what you do not deserve.
Our God is both merciful and gracious.
God extends his mercy towards us by not giving us what we do deserve. God extends his grace towards us by giving us what we do not deserve. God is merciful. God is gracious.
The Apostle Paul wrote about God’s mercy and grace in his letter to the church in Ephesus. Paul said, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:4-5, ESV).
God is rich in his mercy towards us. God loves us so much, he extends his mercy. Even when we were dead in our sinfulness, God makes us alive in him. By God’s grace we are saved.
We need God’s mercy and grace. God’s mercy and grace towards us is astounding and abundant. When we receive God’s mercy and grace we are free and we are truly alive in him.
May we live in the mercy and grace of God and live fully through him, and “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16, ESV).

A Collect For The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, (Proper 16): “Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
