Victory Over Death

How do we receive victory over death? Where does immortality and everlasting life come from?

We hope for death to be defeated. We long to be imperishable. We desire death to be swallowed up by life. We crave immortality and life everlasting.

The Apostle Paul wrote the church in Corinth, saying, “When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’” (1 Corinthians 15:54, ESV).

When we put on Jesus, when we put on life, then death is swallowed up in victory.

May we experience the resurrection life of Jesus as we put on his immortality.

A Collect for Wednesday of Holy Week: “Assist us mercifully with your grace, Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the meditation of those mighty acts by which you have promised us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
