Where Your Heart Is

What is your heart set upon? What do you treasure the most? Where do you invest the bulk of your time and your resources? Is your answer to each of these questions the same?

We invest in what we treasure. Our hearts affection, attention, time and resources is set upon what we value above all else.

Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21, ESV).

What we treasure is where our heart is.

The riches and material wealth of this world is temporary. The wealth of God and God’s kingdom is eternal and everlasting.

Earthly treasures and wealth are temporary and are subject to corruption, rot, decay, erosion, and loss.

The eternal riches of God and his kingdom endure forever.

When we invest in these treasures of God, his word, and his kingdom, our hearts will be with God, his word, and his kingdom as well, and we will never loose this kingdom investment.

May we treasure God and his kingdom and set our hearts on the eternal treasures of heaven.

Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
