Who Loves First

Whose idea is love? Who thought of love first? Who takes the initiative to love?

God is love. Love is God’s idea. God loved first and always initiates love.

The Apostle John wrote about love in his first letter, saying, “We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19, ESV).

We know love because God loves first.

May we experience the love of God as we receive his love for us and as we love God and as we love others as God loves us.

A Prayer for Those We Love: “Almighty God, we entrust all who are dear to us to your never failing care and love, for this life and the life to come, knowing that you are doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (#52., Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
