Who You Work For

Why do you do the work you do? What is the purpose of your work? Who do you work for?

Your work has value, purpose, and meaning. Why we do our work matters. Who we do our work for matters.

When we work to serve and to glorify God, it changes the motivation of our work and the quality of our work.

The Apostle Paul wrote the Colossian Church, saying, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV).

When we work with all our heart and with all our might, as unto God and not people, we receive an eternal reward from God.

We are serving and glorifying Jesus when we are doing our work with excellence.

May we consider who we are working for as we do everything with excellence and glorify God—knowing we have an eternal inheritance and reward waiting for us.

A Collect for Peace: “O God, the source of all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works: Give to your servants that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments, and that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
