Witnesses

How can we believe what we did not see for ourselves? How do we bear witness to what others do not see?

If we do not witness truth for ourselves, we can rely on firsthand witnesses who we trust to be reliable.

The Apostle Peter wrote of his encounter on the mount of Transfiguration, saying, “For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,’ we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.” (2 Peter 1:16-18, ESV).

Peter was an eyewitness to Jesus’ majesty. Peter was present on the holy mountain with Jesus, Moses, Elijah, and James and John. Peter heard the voice of God and saw the glory filled cloud.

Like Peter, we do “not follow cleverly devised myths” concerning Jesus. Our faith is grounded in evidences and eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ divinity and radiant glory.

May we be assured by the eyewitnesses in our faith in Jesus, and may we bear witness to the divinity and glory of Jesus in our our lives.

A Collect for Guidance: “Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
