A Cup Of Cold Water

What are you doing to refresh those around you as you serve God together? How is the generosity of your life spilling over into the lives of others as you equip, prepare, empower, and refresh them to serve God?

We all need encouragement and refreshment along the way as we serve God together.

Living a generous life considers the needs around us and how we can help others to flourish by pouring our lives into theirs.

In equipping, preparing, and sending out his disciples, Jesus gave instructions about how they should be received and treated and how we are to treat other disciples of Jesus.

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus said, “And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42, ESV).

We are to serve and provide for one another in refreshing ways. Even giving a cup of cold water to someone refreshes them for service, blesses them, and invokes God’s blessing.

As the author of Hebrews writes, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25-25, ESV).

May we live generous lives as we refresh those around us to love and to serve Jesus.

A Prayer Of Self-Dedication, by William Temple: Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.” (#73, Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
