Alive in Jesus

Are we dead or are we living? Is it possible to be dead and alive?
As followers of Jesus, we are dead to our old sinful ways of life and we are alive in Jesus.
The Apostle Paul wrote the church in Rome, saying, “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.” (Romans 6:6-8, ESV).
We cannot be slaves to sin and death and truly be alive. It is in dying to our old sinful-self that we can be truly alive in Jesus. Our sin nature, our body of death, must be put to death so that we can be set free to be alive in Jesus.
When we die with Jesus to sin and death, we will also live with Jesus.
As Paul wrote the Romans, may we “also must consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:11, ESV).
A Collect for Strength to Await Christ’s Return: “O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
