All Things Ours

What has God given us? Has God held anything back from his children? If God is for us, what are we lacking?

God has given us all things. When God gave us his only Son, he gave us every good thing. And if God gave us his Son, he will not withhold anything from us.

The fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and humanity’s first sin began with questioning God’s goodness. Adam and Eve were led to believe that God was withholding something good.

However, God has not withheld any good from his children. God is for us, has given us his only Son, and will not withhold any gracious good from us.

The Apostle Paul wrote the believers in Rome with the hope of God’s provision, saying, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32, ESV).

God is for us and God graciously gives us all things.

May we trust in our loving, good, and gracious God who has given us his only Son and who has not withheld any good thing from us.

A Collect for the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 12): “Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
