Attaining Resurrection

What are the differences between this life and the life to come? Are there facets of this life that will change and look differently in eternity? What does attaining resurrection life look like?

In answering a question about marriage in eternity, Jesus instructed the Sadducees, who did not believe in the resurrection, saying, “Those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.” (Luke 20: 34-36, ESV).

When children of God die, we are sons and daughters of the resurrection, and life as we know it changes. For example: 1. considering marriage, no one marries nor are they given in marriage, 2. we do not die anymore, 3. we are equal to angels, and 4. we are children of the living God—we are son’s and daughters of God.

As beloved children of God, may we be considered worthy through Jesus to attain his resurrection as sons and daughters of the resurrection.

A Collect for Strength to Await Christ’s Return: “O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
