Everything is Ours

Have you ever gotten caught up in the comparison trap? Have you envied someone else, their talents, skills, gifts, personality, strengths, or possessions?

When it comes to the people of God, the church, we share in the blessings of one another. We enjoy and benefit from what each person has to offer. There is no competition or comparison in the Kingdom of God. We belong to one another.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.” (1 Corinthians 3:21-23, ESV).

There is no room for pride in the Body of Jesus. God has given each of us all things. All that we have is from God and belongs to one another. We are the church and all that we are and all that we have belongs to God.

There is no room for jealousy, envy, pride, or self-seeking in the people of God. Each of us has something to offer. We need what each other brings to the church. We belong to one another, and we share all that God has given in common, for mutual benefit, and for God’s purposes.

We do not need to be afraid or have a scarcity mindset, as Jesus said in Luke’s gospel, “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32, ESV).

With the assurance that God has given us everything, may we trust God and his church with everything we are, and give to God and to his people all that we have.

A Collect for Strength to Await Christ’s Return: “O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
