Faith Over Fear
What does it look like to have faith in the face of our fear? How should we respond to God’s difficult call?
Joseph was a man of great faith. In the face of fear and uncertainty, Joseph was invited to have faith and he acted in faith and obedience despite of his fear.
Matthew’s gospel tells us “the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’” (Matthew 1:20-21, ESV).
Joseph obeyed God despite of his fear and uncertainty, and God used him to care for his son Jesus—the savior of the world.
Matthew tells us, “When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife.” (Matthew 1:24,ESV).
Like Joseph, may we have faith in the face of our fear and obey God’s call on our life.
A Collect for Guidance: “Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
