God in the Flesh
What does it mean that God took on our humanity and lived with his people? What are the implications of Jesus taking on flesh?
The incarnation is about God living with us, as one of us. Jesus came in the flesh so that we can experience intimacy with him, and so that he would redeem us by living a perfect life and by dying a sinner’s death.
The Apostle John wrote of the incarnation, God appearing in human flesh, saying, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, ESV).
The coming of the Son of God makes God visible to us. We can see God, because God became flesh and dwels among us. We can see the glory of God by looking at Jesus, who is full of grace and truth.
May we experience God in the flesh as we look at Jesus and behold his glory “as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
A Collect for the Presence of Christ: “Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
