God With Us
What do we anticipate from God at his coming? What does God plan for his children in sending Jesus?
The Prophet Isaiah spoke of God’s Advent, saying, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14, ESV).
God’s blessing and sign of love for us is the presence of Jesus born into the world through the Virgin Mary.
The name given to the messiah is Immanuel—God with us. God gives us this sign and his presence in Jesus.
May we be aware of God’s constant presence with us through his son Jesus and through the power and presence of his Spirit who is with us always.
A Collect for the Fourth Sunday in Advent (O Radix Jesse / O Root of Jesse): “Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and as we are sorely hindered by our sins from running the race that is set before us, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
