God’s Grace To Do Good

What motivates you above all other motivating factors in your life? What compels you to do the good things that you do in life?

We are all motivated by all kinds of different motivations. Some motives are positive and some motives are negative. We are all inspired to live and to do through a variety of different compulsions and motivations.

As followers of Jesus, our primary motivation should be our relationship with Jesus. God’s love, and our relational response to God’s love, should inspire how we live, move, and have our being in this world.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15, NIV).

The love of Jesus motivates us above and beyond any other motivations. God’s love is our primary mover as followers of Jesus.

Because Jesus died for us, we no longer live to ourselves. We live for Jesus. We give ourselves to him who gave himself for us.

May we be motivated by the love of Jesus—motivated to live our lives in sacrificial service—compelled by the sacrificial love of Jesus.

A Collect For Grace: “O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day: Defend us by your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin nor run into any danger; and that, guided by your Spirit, we may do what is righteous in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
