God’s Justice

What does God’s justice look like in the world? How are we to live out our faith in the face of all kinds of injustice in the world?

God is a God of justice. As the people of God, we are to be a people of justice in our lives and in this world.

God spoke through the Prophet Micah, saying, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8, ESV).

God requires his followers to do good and to be people of justice. We are to do justice. We are to love kindness. We are to walk in humility with our God.

God requires justice, which means we need to be a people of justice and champion justice in every instance of injustice in the world. We must fight against every expression of injustice we encounter. We must counter injustice with God’s justice and God’s requirement “to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8, ESV).

As Martin Luther King Jr. said in Letter from the Birmingham Jail, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” (Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from the Birmingham Jail).

May we live out our faith by living out God’s justice in the world.

A Prayer for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Pastor and Martyr, 1929–1968: “Almighty God, by the hand of Moses your servant you led your people out of slavery, and made them free at last: Grant that your church, following the example of your prophet Martin Luther King, may resist oppression in the name of your love, and may strive to secure for all your children the blessed liberty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 1979).
