God’s Resting Place
Where does God rest himself? What does the resting place of God look like?
In the days of old, God’s presence dwelled upon the mountain of God—the temple mount in Jerusalem—God’s holy mountain.
The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.” (Isaiah 11:9-10, ESV).
In the coming fulfillment of Isaiah, God’s dwelling place—God’s glorious resting place, shall be over all the earth, as the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Jesus—the root of Jesse—shall be a sign for all people and all people—all nations shall come to him.
God’s resting place in the world and among the nations will be glorious!
And in those days, no one shall hurt or destroy in all of God’s holy mountain, because the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord.
May we rest with God in the hope and peace of God’s glorious resting place.
A Prayer for the Peace of the World: “Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed: Kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all people the true love of peace, and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth; that in tranquility your kingdom may go forward, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (#28., Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
