Lead Them to Jesus
Who are you following? Who are you leading? If the people you are leading follow you, will they get to Jesus?
We are called to follow Jesus and we are called to lead others to Jesus.
When we follow Jesus closely ourselves, those we lead will come to him as well, because they will go where we are leading, and they will see Jesus to whom our lives are pointing.
In his gospel account, the Apostle John tells us, “The next day again John [the Baptist] was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.” (John 1:35-37, ESV).
John had disciples. John was leading followers. When Jesus came near, John identified Jesus as God’s sacrificial lamb and he pointed to him. When John’s disciples heard John’s exclamation, they left him to follow Jesus.
Our desire should be for others to find Jesus by following our lead and to leave our leadership for Jesus as they encounter him.
Like John, may we lead others to Jesus as we follow him closely with our lives.
A Prayer for Mission: “Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the Cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
