Light and Life

What lights your way and gives you life? Is your pathway through life illuminated? Do you experience yourself as having an abundance of life?

In Jesus we have both light and life. We have the light we need to illuminate our way, and we have the life that Jesus gives us as the light of life.

In John’s gospel account, Jesus spoke to his disciples, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12, ESV).

We can have light and life as we follow Jesus—the light of the world. When we follow Jesus, we do not walk in darkness anymore, we walk in God’s light.

The Apostle John tells us, “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7, ESV).

Walking in the light puts us in sweet fellowship with God and with others. Walking in the light cleanses us from all our sin through Jesus’ sacrifice. Walking in the light sets us apart as God’s children.

The Apostle Peter wrote, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9, ESV).

May we walk in the light and life of Jesus and “proclaim the excellencies of him who called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

In Christ alone, Robbie

A Collect For Christmas Eve: “O God, you have caused this holy night to shine with the brightness of the true Light: Grant that we, who have known the mystery of that Light on earth, may also enjoy him perfectly in heaven; where with you and the Holy Spirit he lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
