No Fear

What causes you to fear? What gives you courage to face your fear?

If God is for us and with us, then what do we have to be afraid of?

Many of us are gripped by fear in our lives. Fear can paralyze us and keep us from living fully and trusting God and others.

In Matthew’s gospel account, Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:28-31, ESV).

The value God places on us, and his good character and compassion, gives us courage in the face of fear.

God knows us and treasures us. We are infinitely valued by God. God cares for us.

May we trust in God’s goodness and care and have courage in him instead of fear.

A Collect for The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost: “Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
