Identity

Where do you discover who you are? What is your identity? How do you describe yourself?

We are created diverse in the image of God. There are many facets to our personality and identity. We are gifted and skilled in many ways.

As followers of Jesus, our identity is found in our unity in Jesus, not in our gifts, individuality, personality, preferences, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, or sexuality. Jesus is our identity.

The Apostle Paul wrote the Galatian church, saying, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:27-28, ESV).

When we are baptized, we put on the person of Jesus. We take off our old nature, and we clothe ourselves with the new nature as we put on Jesus.

May we identify ourselves with Jesus as we clothe ourselves in unity with him.

A Collect for the Third Sunday after Pentecost: “O Lord, from whom all good proceeds: Grant us the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may always think those things that are good, and by your merciful guidance may accomplish the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
