No One Misses Out

Will those who have died and gone to be with Jesus miss out when Jesus comes again?

When Jesus comes again, no one will miss out on his glorious return. Not only will Jesus return and bring with him the great cloud of witnesses—all the saints who previously died, he will also give them their resurrected bodies and they will join the meeting in the air and return with Jesus to usher in his Kingdom.

Paul told the Thessalonians: “For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” (1 Thessalonians 4:15-16, ESV).

God’s own word promises us that those who have died in the Lord will return with Jesus and will get their resurrected bodies before they return with Jesus at his second coming.

Those who are alive when Jesus returns will meet Jesus in the air with the saints of old—the great cloud of witnesses—and they will usher Jesus in for a new heaven and a new earth—they will usher in Jesus and the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.

Paul tells the Thessalonians, “Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18, ESV).

May we be encouraged by these words, knowing we will always be with the Lord—that no one misses out, and may we anticipate the return of Jesus and his Kingdom when the Lord himself descends from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.

A Prayer For Help To Bear Bereavement: “Heavenly Father, help us to entrust our loved ones to your care. Though sorrow darkens our lives, help us to look up to you, remembering the cloud of witnesses by which we are surrounded. And grant that we on earth, rejoicing ever in your presence, may share with them the rest and peace which your presence gives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (#81., Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
