Pruning

What are the areas of your life, the branches, that are dead and fruitless and in need of care and pruning? Are there activities or habits that you are doing that are not producing good?

We can cut back on so much busyness in our lives which is not bearing good fruit. We can prune the areas of our lives which are dead and fruitless and sucking up valuable energy and time without producing.

In the gospel of John, Jesus said to his disciples, “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” (John 15:2, ESV).

God compares his people with a fruitful vine. The Vine Dresser—God—will help craft and remove branches in our lives so that we will grow, flourish, and bear abundant good fruit.

May we experience God’s good pruning work in our lives so that we can live fruitfully for God and his kingdom.

A Prayer for the Week of the Sunday from June 19 to June 25: Proper 7: Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
