Treasure

What do you treasure? Does your treasure have real value? Where is your treasure located? Is your treasure safe and secure? Will your treasure outlast your earthly lifetime?

Jesus spoke of the temporary nature of earthly treasures and the importance of valuing treasures of eternal significance and value.

In Matthew’s gospel account, Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19, ESV).

What this world offers us as valuable is temporary, corruptible, and fleeting, but the heavenly treasure that God has for us can never be corrupted and will last for an eternity.

May we store up treasures in heaven and find that we experience the eternal richness of God’s kingdom which will never fade.

A Prayer for Stewardship of Creation: “O merciful Creator, your loving hand is open wide to satisfy the needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for your loving providence, and give us grace to honor you with all that you have entrusted to us; that we, remembering the account we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
