Regeneration

Have you ever longed for and needed the opposite of what you were experiencing?

Often the life we experience is the inverse of the life we need and long to have.

Our lives need regeneration and new growth—where there is often languishing, stagnation, decay, and disintegration.

Jesus promises us regeneration through flipping the script of this broken world in his blessed statements in Luke’s Gospel account in the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.” (Luke 6:20-23, ESV).

Jesus is bringing about the regeneration we need and are longing for through the consummation of his present and coming kingdom here in this world.

Jesus is reversing the curse and leveraging the consequences of sin for his blessings in his coming kingdom economy.

May we rest in the assurance of God’s blessings and regeneration in the presence of the evils, brokenness, and sadness of our day, as we enjoy and await God’s present and coming kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

A Collect For Strength To Await Christ’s Return: “O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
