The Faith Of Our Mothers

What was the influence of the women in your life in regards to your faith formation?

Our grandmothers and our mothers and the women in our lives can have a strong influence on us, and can nurture us in many ways, especially in regards to matters of our faith and spiritual formation.

This faith formation was addressed with a young man named Timothy, who the Apostle Paul was discipling. Paul reminded young Timothy of his spiritual history and heritage.

Paul wrote to Timothy, saying, “I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.” (2 Timothy 1:5, ESV).

Our faith is usually the result of being handed down to us by faithful and faith-filled people. Like Timothy, we carry forward a legacy of faith that gets passed on from generation to generation.

We are also responsible for receiving that faith and stewarding it well as we pass the faith on to the next generation.

May we remember our legacy of the faith handed down to us by the family of God and may we steward this faith well as we pass it down to our children and grandchildren.

In Christ alone, Robbie

A Prayer For Families: “Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you set the solitary in families: We commend to your continual care the homes in which your people dwell. Put far from them every root of bitterness, the desire of vainglory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, and true godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in holy matrimony, have been made one flesh; turn the hearts of parents to their children, and the hearts of children to their parents; and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we may evermore be joined to one another with bonds of loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (#65, Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
