Sacrificial Humility
What does true sacrificial humility look like? When humility is expressed, what does it look like for those who experience it?
Humility is expressed in self-sacrifice for the benefit of others. True humility causes someone to lay down their lives for the benefit and well-being of others.
The Apostle Paul wrote of Jesus’ humility saying he “emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:7-8, ESV).
True humility is sacrificial and life-giving to all those who experience it. Jesus expressed sacrificial humility by laying his life down for us as a perfect sacrifice for our sin.
May we humble ourselves and receive the greatest gift of Jesus’ sacrificial humility as we receive his sacrificial death for our sin.
A Collect for Monday in Holy Week: “Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the Cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
