Seeing Light
Can you see in the pitch black darkness? Do you have blind spots in your life?
We need light to see. In our sinfulness, we are blinded and we walk in darkness.
Jesus came as the light of the world to help us see his light.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus said, “‘As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’ Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud and said to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.” (John 9:5-7, ESV).
Like the blind man in John’s Gospel account, we have been blind from birth, born in sin and into a sin-filled world. We need the recovery of our sight by the healing light of Jesus.
Like the blind man, we will receive our sight by obedience to Jesus and by looking to his light. When we obey Jesus, we will come back seeing his light.
May we see Jesus as the blind man saw Jesus, who asked, “‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’ He answered, ‘And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?’ Jesus said to him, ‘You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.’ He said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped him.” (John 9:35-38, ESV).
A Collect for Strength to Await Christ’s Return: “O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
