Strong, Sure, and Unafraid
Where do you draw your strength? Where do you find your surety? What keeps you free from anxiety? How do you walk in courage in the face of fear?
Our weaknesses can cause us to be insecure and unsure. This broken world can be unstable and anxiety producing. We can experience fear in the face of the fall.
The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, ‘Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.’” (Isaiah 35:3-4, ESV).
God calls us to be strong, sure, and unafraid. Certainty and surety in God should replace our insecurities and anxieties. God will come and save us. God will restore all that is broken and lost. God will come with his perfect judgement and justice. We can be strong in God and we can be of great courage in the presence of God and his promises.
May we be strong, sure, and unafraid in the face of weakness, fears, and anxieties, being confident that God is with us and for us, God will restore us, and God will save us.
A Collect for the Third Sunday in Advent: “O Lord Jesus Christ, you sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Grant that the ministers and stewards of your mysteries may likewise make ready your way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient toward the wisdom of the just, that at your second coming to judge the world, we may be found a people acceptable in your sight; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
