Taking Hold of Life

What are you fighting for in your life? What are you trying to take hold of in your life?

We fight to obtain, and to maintain, what is important to us. We seek to take hold of that which is important and of value to us. We fight for what is of consequence. We take hold of what is significant which we want to keep.

Our faith is worth fighting for. Eternal life is worth holding on to.

The Apostle Paul wrote his young disciple Timothy, instructing him to “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12, ESV).

Paul wanted young Timothy to fight the good fight of the faith. Paul encouraged Timothy to take hold of the eternal life that he was called to, and to fight for the faith he confessed and to which he committed to publicly before many witnesses.

Like Timothy, may we fight for the faith and keep the faith that we have committed ourselves to, and may we take hold of the eternal life that God has called us to.

A Prayer for Timothy and Titus, Companions of Paul the Apostle: “Almighty and everlasting God, you called your servants Timothy and Titus to preach the Gospel to the people of Greece and Asia Minor: Raise up in this and every land evangelists and heralds of your kingdom, that your Church may proclaim the unsearchable riches of our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
