The King and His Kingdom
Who rules and reigns over your life? Who governs this world and your life?
We are all ruled by something or someone. The question is, “Who is your king? Who rules over you? Whose kingdom do you belong to?”
Jesus spoke in John’s Gospel and proclaimed, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (John 18:36).
Who we see as our king, and where we see his kingdom, effects how we live and make decisions in our lives.
God’s kingdom is not of this world and we are citizens of this other kingdom.
As citizens of another kingdom, the kingdom of God, we are called to live under God’s rule and reign in our lives and to anticipate his present and coming kingdom in this world.
God spoke through the Apostle John in Revelation, saying, “They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” (Revelation 17:14).
Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Jesus’ kingdom will overcome this world and he will rule and reign. Jesus will take over the rule and reign of our lives as well. Jesus is our King. And as Jesus’ subjects, we “are called and chosen and faithful.”
May we be faithful subjects of King Jesus and be servants of his present and coming kingdom in this world.
A Collect For The Last Sunday after Pentecost: Christ the King: “Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
