What makes Good Friday good?

On Good Friday we remember Jesus’ sacrificial death on a cross for our sins. The truth that Jesus died on a cross for our sins and rules over our life is good news.

Good Friday is good because Jesus is our King who takes away our sin and dies so that we may be forgiven and live through him.

At the trial of Jesus, leading up to his crucifixion, Pilate asked Jesus, “‘So you are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.’ Pilate said to him, ‘What is truth?’” (John 18:37-38, ESV).

If we hear the voice of Jesus and listen to him, we can know Jesus, and we are of the truth.

Like Pilate, many do not know Jesus and do not understand the truth of who Jesus is and what he has done to love the world and to forgive the sins of the world. They do not know the truth.

For those who do hear the voice of Jesus, we understand the truth that makes Good Friday good. We understand that Jesus is our King who has come to die on a cross for our sins so that we may live through him as his children.

May we hear the voice of Jesus and know the truth that makes Good Friday good.

In Christ alone, Robbie

A Collect For Good Friday: “Almighty God, we beseech you graciously to behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the Cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
