Walking In The Way Of The Cross
Are you walking in the way of the cross? What does it mean to walk in the way of the cross?
Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24, ESV).
Followers of Jesus are people of the cross. Jesus’ death on the cross and his resurrection from the dead saves us and sets us free from our sin and death.
Jesus also calls us to bear our own cross—to pick up our cross—and to follow him.
Followers of Jesus walk in the way of the cross—we endure sufferings with Jesus and we are beneficiaries of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
As Paul stated in Romans, “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.” (Romans 6:5, ESV).
May we walk in the way of the cross of Jesus, trusting that we will walk through the sufferings and the death of this life into his resurrection and life for us.

A Collect For Monday In Holy Week: “Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the Cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
