You Are The Church

Is the church a place you go to or a people you belong to? Is the church an organization or is it a living organism?

As followers of Jesus, we are the body of Christ. We are the people of God in the world. As the church, we are to embody Christ to one another and to the world. We are the church.

The Apostle Paul wrote the church in Corinth assuring them that they are the church. Paul said, “Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27).

In his letter to the Romans, Paul proclaimed, “For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12:4-5).

Each of us are members of the body of Jesus. We are the church and each of us has a specific role and purpose in the body. We are interdependent with one another and we are members of one another.

May we be the church, the people of God, with one another and in the world, and may we embody Christ to one another and embody Christ for the world around us.

In Christ alone, Robbie

A Prayer For The Universal Church: “O God of unchangeable power and eternal light: Look favorably on your whole Church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; by the effectual working of your providence, carry out in tranquility the plan of salvation; let the whole world see and know that things which were cast down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new, and that all things are being brought to their perfection by him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (#1., Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
