Abide

What or who are you abiding in? What is abiding in you?

When we abide in something or someone, we bear the fruit of what or who we are abiding in.

Jesus instructed his followers to abide in him so that he would abide in us so that we would bear kingdom fruit.

In John’s gospel account, Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” (John 15:4, ESV).

When we abide in Jesus we bear fruit. We cannot bear fruit without abiding in Jesus.

Just as a branch is lifeless and fruitless apart from the tree, we cannot bear fruit if we do not abide in God.

May we abide in Jesus and bear kingdom fruit as we are one with him.

A Collect for Mission III: “O God, you manifest in your servants the signs of your presence: Send forth upon us the Spirit of love, that in companionship with one another your abounding grace may increase among us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
