Freedom From Bondage

What are the ways that you are being held captive? How do you need to be set free?

God wants to deliver his people from wickedness and evil. God desires to set the oppressed free, to break every bond, and to set his children free.

The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6).

A yoke is an instrument of bondage. We can be slaves to wickedness. We can be slaves to oppression. We can even be slaves to the law.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1).

May God break every yoke and may we live free from all bondage to wickedness, oppression, and slavery to the law.

A Collect For The Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost: “Set us free, loving Father, from the bondage of our sins, and in your goodness and mercy give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
