God’s Light In Our Darkness

How dark are our days? What darkness do we encounter and have to navigate in our lives?

We are all surrounded by darkness in this broken world. We live in dark days.

Despite the darkness in this fallen world, God gives us his light. God illuminates our pathway through the darkness and gives us his light.

The Psalmist writes, “For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness.” (Psalm 18:28, ESV).

In John’s Gospel, Jesus spoke to the people, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12, ESV).

Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus gives us the light of life—his light and his life. When we walk with Jesus, we walk in the light of Jesus.

May our life always be illuminated by the light of Jesus as we walk in his light of life.

A Collect For Aid Against Perils: “Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord; and by your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of your only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
