Hope in Jesus

In the face of a fallen world, darkness, and despair, do you still maintain hope? Where do you find your hope? In what, or in who, do you place your hope?

The good news of Advent is that hope is coming. The good news of the coming of Jesus is the truth that Jesus is the ultimate and sure hope we are seeking.

The Apostle Paul wrote the church in Rome reminding them of what Isaiah said, “The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.” (Romans 15:12, ESV).

Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s hope for all people. Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s words: “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:1-2, ESV).

May we place all our hope in Jesus who possesses the Spirit of all wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and fear of the Lord.

And “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:12-13, ESV).

A Collect for the Second Sunday in Advent: “Blessed Lord, who caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and the comfort of your holy Word we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
